For struggling students, Tech Scouts provides an authentic context toexplore, demonstrate and experience their personal value to others. For teachers, Tech Scouts is an organizedsource of just-in-time tech support. And for businesses, Tech Scouts helps keepyouth in the local workforce, building entrepreneurial spirit and knowledge ofopportunities in the local the business community.
WORKSHOP GOALS
Participants will explore cost-saving, student empowering ideas to enrich and extend technology integration in their schools, including:
- MODELS: Comparing student tech support models and benefits for students, schools andcommunities.
- CURRICULUM: Focus on the Tech Scouts curriculum and history
- SCHOOLSUPPORT: Exploring procedures for involving students in needs assessment,design, content development and maintenance of district websites, using opensource content management.
- COMMUNITY: Learning how teens can build thin-client community computer labs from donatedmachines.
- BUSINESS: Discuss related possibilities for school/business partnerships.
